Abstract Window Toolkit

(AWT module)
Subprogram that is part of the API Java API and that allows to integrate a GUI into a Java program.

Absorber

Function, most often done in software, intended to simulate a data well, but without any processing of the information received.
An absorber is usually used for testing purposes.

Absolute URL

A web address that contains all of its constituent elements, which are the access method, the server name, the path, and the file name.

Absolute link

Hyperlink whose anchor has an HREF attribute consisting of the complete Web address of the data to which it directs the user and which are generally located in a server different from that of the html document which contains the anchor.

Absolute hyperlink

Hyperlink whose anchor has an HREF attribute consisting of the complete Web address of the data to which it directs the user and which are generally located in a server different from that of the html document which contains the anchor.

Absolute coding

Coding by means of which the instructions are written in the basic language of the machine, directly assimilated by its circuits.

ABR Average BitRate

This encoding method for audio or video streams is derived from the VBR. In this case the encoder will try to keep the target bitrate at its best so that the resulting file size is more predictable.

Abort

Premature termination of the execution of a program following the appearance of errors, breakdowns or unpredictable phenomena that can not be corrected on the spot.

Abend - abnormal end of task

An abend is the premature termination of a session or task performed by the computer due to an error condition that can not be corrected by the correction routines.

ABCD - Altavista Business Card Directory
Free directory service that was available on the internet and was LDAP compatible.

ABC - Atanasoff-Bery Computer

Precursor of the ENIAC, and which, as such, is sometimes considered the first electronic digital computer. It was created by John Atanasoff and Clifford Berry.

ATM is the information transmission technology that combines the advantages of circuit switching (real-time communication) with bandwidth-management efficiency characteristic of packet switching. ATM is an asynchronous transfer technology for multiplex heterogeneous information (data, voice, video, etc.) on a common infrastructure. The ATM technique is based on segmenting data into single-size cells of 53 bytes (which differentiates it from a packet, which is of varying size). The header of the cell (5 bytes) contains the information allowing each cell to find its way: it indicates among other things the virtual channel identifier (VCI) to which the cell belongs. The VCI is local to the switch, it is re-written at the output of each switch, taking a new value for the next node. ATM was still a developing technology, and that is partly why it is not yet widespread. Some even consider this technology as already obsolete, since IP is now unavoidable and master of the Internet world, and in the sense that now other technologies, such as giga-Ethernet can supplant it at very low cost (No need to change the entire network infrastructure, since it is Ethernet).
AAL is an additional layers to the ATM protocol for data synchronization or error correction.
ATM adaptive layers are responsible for segmenting and reassembling cells from applications. ATM has been designed to carry various data streams, video, voice or data. But the transport of these different types of data flows requires different types of services. For example, the constraints on the data are not the same for the transport of the voice. To cope with these various application needs, various AAL layers have been defined:

AAL1: Suitable for video and audio applications with constant bit rate, such as voice transport.
AAL2: suitable for variable speed video and audio applications.
AAL3 / 4: suitable for secure data transfer.
AAL5: suitable for data transport.

Advanced Audio Coding

AAC is a sound coding standardized by ISO. Compared to MP3, the AAC provides superior music reproduction quality for lower bit rates and can accommodate up to 48 sound channels.
This format has been designed among others for the purpose of streaming. As a result, it is the format that was chosen to encode the music of the iTunes Music Store, rather than the MP3 format for example. Despite its intrinsic qualities, it is still far from equaling the omnipresence of MP3.

Adress Recognized bit

This is the end delimiter of a Token Ring transmission. This bit is generated by a station that identifies the destination address as its own. This helps stations on the ring detect a duplicate address.
A

[MS-DOS] [disk]. Under MS-DOS when this letter is followed by ":" it is the usual identifier of the first floppy disk drive.

Example

Copy command *. * A :, meaning "copy the files from the current directory to drive A:! ".

1 Syntax of a function

The Python syntax for defining a function is as follows:

def function_name (parameter list):
      instruction block

You can choose any name for the function you are creating, except the reserved keywords of the language, and provided you do not use any special or accented characters (the underlined character "_" is allowed) . As is the case for variable names, we use lowercase letters, especially at the beginning of the name (names that start with a capital letter will be reserved for classes).

1 - Declaration of variables in python

A variable is a kind of virtual box in which we can put one (or more) data (s). The idea is to temporarily store data to work with. For your machine a variable is an address that indicates the location of the RAM where the information we have linked is stored.
Python is a dynamically typed language, which means you do not have to declare the type of the variable. So to declare a variable in python, we directly introduce its name followed by its value:
