Verizon’s LG Stylo 2 V is seemingly set to make the jump to Android 7.0 Nougat soon. Although Verizon has yet to confirm the update’s release, the source code for Android 7.0 Nougat was recently uploaded on the official LG Open Source website signaling an OTA (over-the-air) release closing in. The changelog is missing and will likely be published later on by Verizon Wireless, but either way, the upcoming software package will bring the smartphone’s operating system to Android Marshmallow and anyone who is familiar with Google’s latest mobile OS version should have a relatively clear picture of what to expect for the most part.

The LG Stylo 2 V was released on Verizon’s network last October running Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. Since then the smartphone received a handful of software updates, most of which have introduced new Android security patches fixing vulnerabilities and exploits. LG has now prepared the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Open Source program, meaning that Verizon is likely already testing the software package for a public OTA release. Assuming that the testing phase comes to a conclusion without a hitch, Verizon is expected to release the Android Nougat update fairly soon. As to what LG Stylo 2 V users can expect from the future release, Android Nougat promises performance improvements, increased battery life through an updated Doze mode, better multitasking and the inclusion of Multi-Window split-screen mode, bundled notifications, a new data saver mode, a variety of changes to the user interface, and more. However it should be noted that the LG Stylo 2 V carries its own proprietary user interface on top of the Android operating system, and it remains to be seen whether or not LG has made any significant changes to the existing UI.

As for Verizon Wireless customers who may be interested in acquiring the LG Stylo 2 V, the smartphone is currently available off-contract for the price of $240, or for $0 down and $10 a month on a 2-year carrier agreement. Spec-wise the LG Stylo 2 V carries a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720, a MediaTek MT6755M (Helio P10) SoC, a Mali T860 MP2 graphics chip and 2GB of RAM. The smartphone also carries a microSD card slot able to read up to 2 TB of external memory, and as the moniker suggests, it comes bundled with a stylus and LG’s productivity app suite.
