The scientists at the John Innes Center believe that the process is cheap, easy and quick, also it will help to eliminate polio.

According to scientists their approach could help the world to threats unexpected such as Zika virus or Ebola. Out come of this impressive and important success is vaccine that has all the features needed to train the immune system without causing an infection.

The scientists took metabolism of the tobacco family plant to turn its leaves into polio-vaccine. Which Professor George Lomonossoff from John Innes Center says this is a very promising technology and he hopes, they will get vaccines produced using plants in near future.

According to Andrew Macadam, Principal scientist at the UK ‘s National Institute fro Biological Standards and Control, said: “ Current vaccines for polio are produced from large amounts of live virus, which carries a threat of accidental escape and reintroduction.  “ This study takes us a step closer to replacing current polio vaccines, providing us with a cheap and viable option for making virus-like particle-based vaccines.”

The vaccine is an "authentic mimic" of poliovirus called a virus-like particle

This technology is not limited to polio or even just to vaccines but they can make a vaccine against most viruses, like they have used plants to make antibodies like those that being used in cancer therapy.  Also has potential for making vaccines against emerging epidemics such as Zika and Ebola.
