Student Life

Sheffield has a vibrant cultural life which is aided by its large student population. Thanks in the main to the Arctic Monkeys its now one of the UK's most exciting music cities and as the biggest city in South Yorkshire has shops, cinemas, galleries and open spaces to suit most tastes and moods. Sheffield's football teams are two of the most historic in the UK. The student populations of Sheffield College, the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University mean that student nights are plentiful and almost every new British band will flock here to play at one the city's venues.

Sheffield City College is located centrally but there are also buildings at the sites of the Hillsborough, Norton and Peaks Colleges, as well as Sheffield College of Applied Engineering.

Though the college has no accommodation, students can apply for a room at one of Sheffield Hallam University's halls of residences which have en suite, double and a few catered rooms available. See their website for details. Sheffield Hallam University accommodation is available to students at £70-100 per week. In private rental, a room in a shared house can cost just £45-50 per week.

The college prides itself on offering a high amount of contact hours and extra support to students and because of its links with the city's two main universities, many students choose them for further study.

Sheffield itself has a wide variety of sports facilities including an Olympic-standard athletics track and a 50 meter swimming pool.

Jeremy Clarkson, the Top Gear television presenter, is a college alumnus.
