Two new variants of the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) bearing the model numbers SM-J330F and SM-J330DS have been certified by the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) earlier this week, according to a set of documents published by the federal agency on Tuesday. Several models of Samsung’s upcoming entry-level smartphone were already certified by the FCC in February and March, confirming that the device will be available for purchase from T-Mobile and several other carriers in the country. While it’s unclear whether the newly unveiled variants are meant to be carried by specific mobile service providers, their model numbers imply that the main difference between the two will be dual SIM support featured by the SM-J330DS that won’t be replicated by the SM-J330F.

Regarding the device itself, the Galaxy J3 (2017) is expected to sport a 5-inch Super AMOLED display panel with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels and be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 system-on-chip (SoC) and 2GB of RAM. The handset is said to feature 16GB of internal storage that will be expandable via a microSD card slot, though it’s currently unclear whether the phone will support 128GB or 256GB of additional memory. According to previous reports, the Galaxy J3 (2017) will ship with an 8-megapixel or 12-megapixel rear camera equipped with a conventional LED flash and a 5-megapixel front sensor. While some previous certifications suggested that the handset will run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, newer details indicate that Samsung will launch the Galaxy J3 (2017) with Android 7.0 Nougat. Regardless of the exact build of Google’s ubiquitous operating system that the smartphone will run on release, the Galaxy J3 (2017) is expected to ship with a heavily customized user interface that’s a hallmark of all Android-powered Galaxy handsets.

Being a new addition to Samsung’s entry-level product lineup, the Galaxy J3 (2017) will likely be a relatively affordable device, though its specific price tag has yet to be revealed. Given how the phone already passed through all necessary regulatory approvals, the South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer may launch it in the U.S. in the coming weeks, so more details on the Galaxy J3 (2017) will probably follow shortly.
